11:16pm: The Last Email [very late, ED78]
*He had meant to send it earlier. Maybe he had sent it earlier and he couldn't remember; it had been that stressful in camp recently.*

*Well, it wasn't anything that redundancy would hurt. Who knew; maybe this time he'd hit on the address that would whisk this message impossibly between worlds, using the thread of Lifestream that seemed to join them all. Or maybe it would amuse Kanzeon Bosatsu, who seemed to like confounding the captives, into delivering the email herself to Gaia. It was nice that she was the merciful goddess and all that, but it was disconcerting to be treated like a mere amusement, not like a living, thinking, feeling human being.*

*Zack had already had enough of that treatment to last several lives. He decided to stop brooding and start writing.*

Subject: COMING HOME, NEED HELP... )

---------------------

*Zack finished typing, then hesitated. How could he ask anyone to take Phoenix's wrath just to save his long-dead hide? Could he do it at all?*

*He looked over to where Cloud was curled up, pretending to sleep. The blond was breathing evenly, at least resting for a little before the next day -- and their bid for freedom -- started. Cloud, who came back for him after escaping this prison of madness. Cloud, who kept going even as he despised the very strength that allowed him to save all of Gaia. Cloud, who asked so little and deserved so much.*

*Sure as chocobos lay little round eggs, Zack could do it. And would.*

*The SOLDIER reached out and hit "send".*
